Transmission Problem - 350SDL

My 350SDL with 129K miles lags when shifted into reverse. If I do not wait a few seconds for it and feather the accelerator, it jerks backwards and screeches the tires. Is the tranny going needing a complete rebuild or is there an adjustment or minor fix? Other than that and A/C and radiator work, no major problems with the engine or unusual oil comsumption. Still getting 26 mpg too.
