post was moved so while posting it wouldn't let me.. haha. this is what i had put....

these have been up for about a week and half to 2 weeks. i fon't remember how long. they look impressive and i think they will give off the best light as it does not have those ridges like other euros do. it is perfectly smooth and will look great on black cars imho. i can't wait until somebody buys some from a site here and reviews them with pictures. i am shocked by the price... but what surprises me more is the increase of price by the same bidder such as this...

I looked up on the guy's bid history, nothing looks fishy about this auction at all. Plus the fact that he/she is from France.

But since they are aftermarket I bet the beam pattern isn’t that great. Not as good OEM euros, but maybe better than DOT (at least for 93 and older cars). Who knows. gotta find out who the manufacturer is

it would be nice if the seller had more information, like who the manufacturer was. When these come down in price (hopefully to the 200 - 250 level) it will be much easier to install these headlights with projectors (real xenon/bi-xenon projectors, not just HID bulbs). Then you can forget the beam pattern of the light assembly and just use the projector beam. That will be impressive.

the bidder's price thing is common on eBay. Let's say you are bidder 1 with a max bid of $206. the current price is 200. you get the bid. Bidder 2 comes in and bids his 2 dollar increment, $202, but you still have a max bid of 206, so the bid is back to you for 202. The list will continue to show your bids by the auto bidding done by eBay on your behalf until you have been outbid, then the bidder history will change.

So do guys think there would be much of a demand for these particular headlights (W124)? Like, if I somehow found out the manufacturer name (realize that they prolly are some Asian company) and were able to import them, would there be any buyers assuming they cost somewhere in the $200 range?

I know I would buy them, but I’d be buying for the reason mentioned a few posts ago…a HID projector retrofit. I don’t know how savvy you guys are for stuff like that.

I would definitely be interested in them at the 200 price point. Definitely not at 400+ though. You should try to get the manufacturers name.

Did someone finally come up with xenon retrofit kit for W124? Not just the so-called xenon bulbs, but the works including wiring, housing, & all. Last time I checked this wasn't available.

The catch is that rhey are PLASTIC

The lenses are made of PLASTIC. It won't stay clear, the Sun, weather and dust will eventually make them opaque.

Our MB club went to the dealer last year and this salesguy was blathering on about how glass lenses became opaque and the new MB lenses were "polycarbonate" and would stay clear forever. Another popular word for plastic is resin. There are many kinds of plastic, but none of them is harder than glass, so far as I know, at least none that is transparent.

The parking lot was full of examples of how untrue this is, so I didn't say anything. The plastic on my 90 300E gradually became opaque and then began to flake and fall away. The plastic on the 85 is a lot better, but was still not shiny or clear after 20 years.

I put Depo's on the 90 and some offbrand Taiwan lamps on the 85, and both look a whole lot better. The workmanship is admittedly rather Detroitish and not up to Bosch standards, but the lights are brighter and a lot more attractive, and they won't go opaque unless someone snadblasts them or perhaps squirts hydroflouric acid on them, which I deem very unlikely.

Indeed plastic will fade over time, but I think if you look at most of the lexan lenses in the parking lots you will see 5+ year old cars with quite clear plastic lenses. I admit that they can't last as long as glass, but, one would think that a replacement lexan lens would be relatively inexpensive.
