nozzle cuts off at 5 gallons consistenntly when fueling
I've been through 2 summers with the car, and the only trouble I have had before is if I run the pump on high, and it might stop filling up 1-2 gallons short. Now though, I can run any pump I use on the lowest setting, and I am having to click-click-click from 5-8 gallons up to the full 14 or so. I don't know why the difference this spring.........I mean you can say heat and expansion all you want, but it never was like this last summer.......

Thanks, but unless all the area gas stations I have used have done something with their pumps this year, that doesn't seem to explain it.

I guess what I am asking is if there is any valve or part in the tank or filler that could be causing this.

Common problem on a lot of W 202's ( and also MANY gas stations ).
Try this: Insert the filler nozzle about 1/2 to 3/4 , and keep the bottom of the handle in the 7 - 8'o clock position. Works for me.

When I experience this problem I turn the fuel filler handle 180 degrees so it is upside down of what you would normally expect.
They never kick off this way. People do look at me like I am crazy but I also saw someone else equally as frustrated do the same thing and then smile approvingly. Haasman

I think it has something to do with not sticking it all the way in.
Oh, wait a minute.................never mind.

Will, what year & model W202??? MB did have problems starting in 1997 with OBVR system & modified the filler neck for that exact problem!
OBVR= onboard vapor recovery.
