W210 Upper Control Arm

I have a 1997 E320 with 142k. I have developed a creaking noise in the front passenger suspension. I have narrowed at least one cause being the upper control arm bushing that connects to the steering knuckle. In reviewing the procedures in WIS and looking for parts, it seems like I will have to replace the entire upper control arm. Is this correct? Also, the WIS procedure calls for a puller 124589033300 and a thrust piece 210589046300 to remove and install this piece. Are their any alternative tools that will work for this job?

I also want to inspect the lower ball joints and bushings. Besides visually inspecting for cracks in the bushings and boots, are there any other tests that I can do.

In your area I would also check the upper spring mounts for cracks. Item 50 is the upper control arm and comes with the balljoint made to it.

Thanks for the quick reply. I have been keeping eye on those spring mounts that best I can. I have had this car for 2.5 years, prior to this it was in Florida.

Any comments on the tools I mentioned and or doing the job itself. I plan on doing this myself then taking in for alignment. Most of it looks straight forward, I am just concerned about the balljoint area that calls for these tools. I also will be installing new tires and shocks. I know that when changing the upper control, the shock needs to stay in place.
