Help with replacing 3rd brake light on 95 E420

My 3rd brake light located by the rear windshield went out and I got a bulb fault indicator light. Is it easy to replace? What bulb number do I need to use? If anyone has some directions to show how to do it would be greatly appreciated!

It's a simple, easy job

I recently replaced the lamp on my 95 E300D. It's a 3-minute job. The owner's manual has all the information you'll need. If you don't have a manual I'll try to scan an image and post the instructions.

Let me know if you don't have the owner's manual and I'll post the info for you. Thanks.

Manual Instructions

Sorry, can't scan the manual to a file size small enough to attach. Here's the verbatim description from the manual:

"To replace the bulb, pull tabs on both sides - using a screwdriver - to release cover. Press bulb dowb down, turn counterclockwise and remove."

You do this from inside the car. I was able to remove the cover with my fingertips - didn't even need a screwdriver. Hope this helps you. By the way, I picked up a new manual for my '95 at a dealer for about $12. Happy motoring!

Joseph_H,

The bulb you need is 21W/32cp. It is definitely DIY, though take your time not to break those plastic tabs. I don't have the bulb number, but once you remove the old one you can probably read it off that.

For the manual, besides dealers try calling MBUSA -- they may send it to you for free, whether you bought the car new or otherwise. Good luck.
