Greetings.
The oil light in my 86 300E has started to come on during hard, accelerating left hand turns. The light shuts off as soon as we're straight and level. I check the oil level religiously (once on Sundays and at every fuel stop) and it is fine (checked both hot and cold). I've tried to get the light to come on in right-hand turns, under straight-line acceleration and in hard stopping. Nothing. Just hard left-hand turns. I found another thread started by someone with a 190E 2.6, but I've been unable to find anything about 300Es posted. Should I worry?

My 86 300E does the same exact thing, it mostly does it when accelerating on moderate left hand turns or on hard left turns. I checked the oil level which was alittle below the max mark.

can be the sensor
I had the same problem with my former 190D (I know that this is a not accelerating car, but once lowered enough and on speed, the turns can be taken very hard) and changed the oil-level sensor which was sufficient to solve the problem...
It is nothing to be worried about. greetingz,

If the system is working correctly then the sending MUST send a low oil signal for 45 seconds before the light is supposed to come on. That is some pretty hard driving!! Never had light come on in race car!

M.B. Doc.:
The driving isn't all THAT aggressive, which, coupled with your reply makes me suspect that the sensor/sending unit must be tiring. Is this a difficult DIY? Are there any particular pitfalls to be aware of? (Can I get Benzmac to do this at the opening of MB Autowerks in June if I make it out there?)

oil light
Mine does the same but what I figured is that the sensor is on the left side of the pan (91-300E..164K) and as soon as I get strtatight and I moved the steering a little bit to the left ( slushing the oil to the left side inside the pan) the light clears.........as long as you get the right level when you are leveled when you check your fluid (oil) ..OK

As pointed out the instrument cluster should delay giving the warning (I thought 60 secs) by a given time. This is done so hard cornering won't give temporary readings that aren't necessary.
If the sending unit reading stays on for more than 45 seconds the strategy is to give the warning light. The reasoning being you aren't going to stay in a left hand corner that long. The delay circuit is in the instrument cluster.
