oil level warning light suddenly went on the other day - but the oil level was fine - even a bit too much. I checked it hot and the level was low; then I re-checked cold and it was pushing the max level.
I panicked and added a qt of regular oil to Mobil 1 before checking cold. Now I have mixed oil and too much of it. How bad is it? Could I wait another 1,000 mi for oil change? I currently have 3,800 mi since the last one. Also, is it a light mulfanction or it comes on for some reason? Thanks in advance. |

Always check your engine oil with a warm engine on a level surface. Be certain the engine is off for at least 5 minutes before checking to allow the oil to settle from the valve train. With 3,800 miles it is very possible that your engine consumed enough oil to turn on the light. No big deal, we see it all the time and adding a quart typically takes care of the problem. Incidentally, is the light off now that you've added oil?

Yes, the sending unit can fail. If the oil level is full, the light should remain off. A nearby shop should be able to troubleshoot it easily! Good luck! Benzmac
