Don't walk away from that guy, RUN away from him.

To begin with he probably is just having trouble with a shrader valve, secondly you don't just add 134 to a 12 system, it is an involved process to do a 134 conversion.

R12 is coming down in price while 134 is going up. There is NO reason these days to convert.

Find someone who knows what they're doing.
