'97 E420 Code P0500

Hello,
This is my first time posting.
I am getting a "check engine electronics" message caused by fault code P0500. The left front speed sensor signal malfunction.
After clearing the code, it will consistantly reset during hard braking from 35 mph and up. The sensor was replaced and also the hub and sensor ring are in good condition.
The signal was checked up to the first connector and appears normal.
My questions :
One, It seems as if this signal is shared by more than one processor - ABS,PCM,Traction control etc.. through a network CAN/BUS .
Would a wiring or connector issue be the culprit?
Two ,where would the most likely location of the problem be, since the speedometer reading stays normal when the problem occurs ,I think the speed signal to this point must be O.K. or does the speedometer use the input from a different sensor?
Thanks for reading this and I will keep you informed of what happens.

StevenH
