Aux fan repair

1994 E320 coupe. Replaced a non-working auxiliary fan. Has anyone ever repaired one? With new ones getting costly it would be worthwhile to repair/rebuild a non-functioning motor. Are there shops that rebuild these? Or is a diy project?
