acceptable gear shift travel, w113
The gearshift lever in my 1964 230sl has approximately 1 inch of fore-aft travel when I hit a bump in the road. It looks wrong, but I don't know what it normal. Gear box is tight (gears engage properly, stay engaged, no synchro probs.), linkage bushings and motor mounts all good (replaced 10,000 miles ago). Don't recall if I renewed the transmission mount at the same time and I know the subframe bushings are all original (130,000 miles, 41 years old). Has any one a suggestion?
Also, please accept my thanks to this board's contributors. You guys have helped me sort out a couple of issues that have made my MB ownership even that much more enjoyable, thanks, greg
