I redid the tests (HI-LO and 72F)
For the first one the display shows: right left Eb1 230 E FF and nothing else. The second test shows: 5 = 91 6 = 182 7 = 29 8 = 107 9 = 85 10 = 5.4 11 = 2.5 12 = 2.3 the rest were the same as before. Could it mean I got a defective part from dealer?

Thanks Pat
I was counting the grill screw as one of the four...It's that white plastic nut that's got me hung up. it seems to spin in place. Do i pop it off with a screwdriver or do I need a different tool?
Thanks, Paul Paul, the cover is held in place by the following fasteners: 3 screws (2 located on the fabric portion of the cover on left and right side - where you have your knees when you drive, which the third one is new the hood release handle. Then you have also a plastic nut located between the accelerator pedal and brake pedal, and a plastic philips screw which holds the lower vent grill attached to the console. Finally there are also 3 snap-fit fasteners - you need to pull the cover towards the driver with some force. Do not use screw driver to pry it because you may damage the fabric. Good luck |

Thanks for the help...
Mission accomplished, ac now works fine.
For the next guy: The mental piece that I was missing was that the cloth section comes off with the black plastic piece as one unit. I thought that the screws that I took out through the cloth aided the seperation of the plastic and cloth when the screws seperated the whole piece from support arms. And yes, if you unscrew that wierd nut at the base of the steering column about 50 times it comes off. |

I had the same reading. I got an evap temp of 143 also. Talked to Gilly who said that there was no way it could be that high. Changed the sensor and found that it was updated to the one mentioned. Works fine for now. Still holding onto my Friday appointment just in case but on Thu night I will cancel it.

I wouldn't really say there is "no way" it could be that high, but if it was, your heater temp sensor wouldn't have been reading something in the 60's, it'd be very hot also. There is no way you'd see this significant of a temp difference. It was rather obvious the evap temp sensor was bad.

AC Evap Sensor replacement
I also have a bad AC evap temp sensor on my 1998 C280. (reading 145 at engine off and on). Undid the dash (5 philips screws) but did not remove the large white screw at the accelerator pedal. The panel was left hanging due to Hood cable and OBD module wiriing still attached to the panel. This allows very little room to poke around. I think I could see the sensor (the original is white! on my car) but unable to get to it. Any tips to undo the final wires/cables?? for clean access to the underside and on the left side of the console??
Thanks - enkad |

Clear View Under Dash
Enkad,
Just a few ideas. It's been a month...But the OBDII connector wires are removed from the back of the connector by sliding the clip to the left on the underdash side where the wires go in to the back. Pull the wires evenly. The hood release is disconnected by removing the sheet metal screw, opening the lever and pushing the lever through the hole. Working on mine as we speak... Can you tell me where the Refer Temp sensor is? Chris 1999 E-55 |
