96 C280 Front Upper Ball Joint

Hi do I understand correctly the the entire upper control arm must be replaced if the upper front ball joint has play. I have not found any information from Alldata that indicates that the upper ball joint can be replaced alone. Is this a joint that is prone to catastrophic failure.

I installed the front lower ball joint today.

Thanks

The upper control arm needs to be replaced on the passenger side. It looks pretty simple from the picture but looking at the engine compartment I cannot see the long bolts that go through the upper control arm. Do I have to remove a lot of components from the engine compartment before the through bolts are removed to replace the control arm?

Thanks

202 upper control arm

here are two documents outlining the replacement of the arms, looks like you need to remove the modules and the module box to replace the one on the passenger side.

Thanks for all the helpful information. Will order part right away. I will disconnect the battery before I start the job.

Will there be any additional issues generated ( computer codes that must be cleared, etc) by removing the modules for the right side upper control arm through bolts?

Have there been any reports of the upper control ball joint separating.

Thanks again,
