Do I need a new fuel distributor?

I have a 1986 420 SEL. It has gotten so sluggish accelerating that a Yugo passed me by. A friend checked the compression, plugs and wires - everything was fine - thought it might be the injector on the first cylinder. Took it to a mechanic who replaced the injector, still not working. He (mechanic) said he pulled the spark plug from the first cylinder and it was dripping with gas. Said the injector was pouring gas in there at times and sometimes not. Never really saw a nice mist. Said the problem was only with the first cylinder. He then recommended a new fuel distributor but said that he thought that if the problem was the distributor, it would affect all 8 cylinders. Only other thing he thought of was that about 3000 miles ago, I accidently filled the car with diesel and made it about 200 yards till it died and had to get cleaned out. Thought maybe that may have done something to cause this. Any ideas? I just put a new transmission into it and am not looking forward to another 4 digit repair bill. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

Judging by your name(flsun), I'm guessing that you live in Florida.

If you're near Gainesville, take it to Continental Imports. The owner(Steve Brotherton) has made many contributions here. He knows MBs inside/out.

I would at the very least get another opinion; however, the diesel fuel likely did you in. The question is, did it deep-six the fuel distributor or another part of the fuel system?

No one can answer this over the WEB. At the very least, I believe you need a tech who is very competent with MB fuel systems.
