Please HELP... which year this engine is built?

Hello,

I bought a mercedes engine and am wondering, is it possible to see which year the engine is built? I don't have a chassis number only the motor number... The local mercedes dealers say they can't...

The engine number = 617 952 12 003 716

hope someone can help me out...

Thanks. Floris

1981-85 for that engine. That should be a 1981 engine with that low number (003716)

The 1981 300TDT wagon was the first car with that engine. W123.193 chassis.

Then in 1982 all W123's with turbo diesel engines used that type of engine.

Maybe you can help me with my number, Doc.

103 942 10 007 524 3 9 2

The car's build date is 12/87 (chassis no. F449XXX). The window sticker lists the engine number as "007524". So what are the last three digits? (I can't see how they could be a date code for for an engine built in late '87.) They are stamped on the block with spaces between as listed above.

The 9.2 is the compression ratio! 9.2/1

Remember the 1978 300SD was the first with a turbodiesel. which was a OM617.952 XXX but I don't have the breakdown below what I showed.

Okay, thanks!

So we have engine type 103.942. The sequence number is 007524, and the compression ratio is 9.2:1.

Do you have any idea what the "10" and "3" mean?

Boneheadeddoctor,

The 1978 300SD used a 617.950 engine & the 1981 & later used a 617.951 engine !
The question was for a 617.952 engine!! & that started in 1981 on only W123 chassis cars!
