Question rear wheel clunk 1984 380sl

When I take my foot off the gas or stop at a light there is a klunk and it sounds like it is coming from the right rear wheel or axel. Also when I jacked up the right rear tire off the ground with the car in park, I can rotate the wheel about a quarter of an inch and there is a distinctive clunk coming from the wheel/rotor area. I checked the caliper bolts and they are tight. Any body have any thoughts on this?

sounds like

a bad half shaft. park car so there is no torque on the half shaft, nuetral and held by parking brake, and grab the half shaft and see if it will wiggle. i am betting it will and the half is bad.

Do you also hear a clicking noise when you go around a corner coasting, like a highway off ramp? A half shaft is half of the rear axle from the differential to the wheel hub. The half shaft assembly includes a constant velocity (CV) joint which is a flexible connection between the axle and wheel, this is what wears out and makes noise.
