I have a 1988 300 SE Germany. the motor starts up then the trunk and bumper gets really really hot? Can smell it in the car. Just got the car but afraid of it. The car will start really easy and run for maybe a minute and then quit. Then I can start it up again and it will run again for a minute. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Would catlatic converter cause this problem? It has a new fuel pump on it. It dont miss or backfire. Motor just dies until started again.

Slide underneath the back end and look. You'll probably find a severely dented muffler or crushed tailpipe restricting the exhaust.

I checked the exaust system and there is no dents, and air is comming out of the exaust. It still runs for a minute and then shuts off. If i let it set for awhile it will run 3 minutes and quit then restart it it runs for a minute and quits. but it always restarts and runs good when it does. Dont miss or anything.

Would this be caused from the Fuel Pressure Regulator? Would anyone know? Any help would be appreciated. As for the getting hot, The exaust is very close to the trunk of the car. I dont think it was put on correctly.
