W123 TD Rear Axle Swap Circlips & Washers
I am in the middle of switching out the rear axles on my 300TD, and I see that the manual says to replace the circlips 115 994 04 34 that hold the axles into the spider gears, and the special washer 115 357 06 75 that goes inside the hub that the bolt goes through to hold the axle in the hub.
What is your experience? Did you replace those parts as MB specifies or not? The local dealers don't have them in stock so I will have to bring them in. I can get them overnight, but I am driving my wife's car.

AT dealer we always replaced the "C (e)" clips that secure the axle shafts to the side gears.
However the ones on my race car & personal cars have been re-used MANY times! No problems. Just turn the outer washer on the spacer around & it will bend & secure tha axle!

search under my name as much as you want - that was an issue i had - and wrestled with...i had to surface grind a washer shim to fit to minimize slop...and the circiclips - i put new ones in - the FMS says one time use...for 3 bucks or whatever i changed them out....but you could definitely use them over...
i have a few shims left over as i bought a bunch - what size do you need.... Good Luck Jake edit - oh! hub washer - yeah you can turn that one around to bend it back in - or replace it... M.B.Doc is on point! |

Where can I get parts numbers?
Thank you for your answers. I followed the book and picked up the parts this morning. I think he charged me list plus for the parts, but I had them in one day and will put them in this evening. I went to a link on the MB webpage http://www.mbusa.com/brand/container.jsp?/heritage/expert.jsp&menu=6 and called the 1-866-622-5227, and they looked up the part numbers for me. The guy at the dealership was a real jerk, and wouldn't give me the information.
Are there parts books out there with the part numbers in them, so I don't have to research the parts numbers?
