Rear end swap 2.3-16

I have alot of noise coming out of my diff. 87 2.3-16. I checked the fluid and it was very low, stupid me. Anyway, I haven't figured out if it is wheel bearings, doubtful, or the rear end. I will be lookong for a used rear, limited slip doesn't matter at this point. What are my gear ratio's and what swap could I do or use with my 5-speed so it wouldn't hurt performance?
Thanks

you have 3.27s and I think 2.3-16 differentials are unique. THey are limited slip too I believe. You need to get a 2.3-16 diff to not sacrifice performance. Maybe put synthetic oil in the differential you know some really good stuff, it may quiet it down. If it was low, you have a leak. Is it leaking out the cover?

The diff from any 1987 & later 190 will bolt in. ALSO 1986 thru 1992 W124 chassis cars will fit as well. There are several ratios that would help cut the RPM's down but wouldn't help performance. NONE of those diffs have limited slip!

At this point, I don't see any leaking, but obviously something is going on there. i don't care if I have limited slip at this point, but I do want a proper ratio so I don't hurt performance.
Thanks

omegabenz,

190E 2.3-16 models came with a limited slip differential as the base car configuration (standard equipment) and no other options were offered for electronically controlled ones or plain ones, to my knowledge.

beamonk,

I agree with the MBZ190E16V recommendation, get the differential filled with RedLine Oil Co's limited slip differential fluid, and see if it helps before trashing the unit. I use it, the "shockproof" stuff, and it quieted mine down quite a bit as it had developed a howl at highway speeds that was not so loud it hurt, but it was annoying. Gone now (4,000 miles). See their stuff at www.redlineoil.com. Good luck, Jim
