M104 Code 11 on pin 14 re-start problem
I've been pouring over the threads for a week trying to fix an intermittent problem with my 93 300E 2.8.... After driving the car and shutting if off for a few minutes (e.g. to get gas), the car will not start (cranks but won't fire). After 15-20 minutes, it will start like there was no problem. Car doesn't stall or idle rough. When it first occured, my mechanic replaced the crank position sensor. That worked until three days ago... I pullled and cleared codes 2,5, and 11 from pin 14. Today it happend again. This time only pulled 11 from pin 14... I've read many threads mentioning OVP, fuel relays, vac leaks etc.. and I'm overwhelmed and need a little direction. Trying not to just throw parts at it which I feel (not sure) my mechanic might do. Any help is greatly appreciated.

When this condition happens, do you hear the fuel pumps run in the rear of the car ? You should be able to hear a "buzzing" noise when the engine runs. Fuel pump is located under the car right under the right rear passenger seat. If you don't hear them when the no-start condition occurs, its "possible" that the ovp relay is bad. I just had a customer's car towed in today with the same complaint. Had no power to the fuel pump. Further testing showed a bad ovp relay. In your case, it could be an ovp relay or a fuel pump relay. These relays are located behind the plastic shield that is right behind the battery. When this happens again, pull the plastic shield out of the way and look for a black rectangular shaped relay that says "kickdown" on top of it. Put your hand on the relay and have someone turn on the ignition, and see if you feel or hear the relay click. If it doesn't, it may not be powering up do to the ovp relay. (the ovp relay, also behind the battery has a fuse in the top of it.) The testing for the relays is simple yet time consuming to type out - yet it may likely be one of those 2 relays. Hope this helps some. (Please so this at your own risk, No responsibility assumed.) |

The OVP test is the "Tappity-Tap Test.".
This is done with a light tapping from a screwwdriver handle when the No Start condition exist... However , this tapping does have to be done to a specific rhythm /meter.. " Lord, won'tcha buy me..a.. mer ..Say,,Deys ..Benz, ....Oh Lord.. wontcha buy me... aaaa mer..cedes.. benz.." ....with a kinda Blues feel. If it starts , change the OVP, but use the newer modified part #.. The old has been superceded and was a common No Start problem on that chassis.. The original OVP was 000-540-52-45. Thanks
PB and AD... Thanks for the help. I just replaced the OVP (since mine was the old version and the car has 125K mi.). So far no problems. Beginning to regain confidence that my car will start.

E320 not starting
My MB does the same. What is a OVP? and any idea if it's in the same place as the E320 1994?
tks, Marcel |

Your 1994 E320 should still be a W124 chassis, it's in the same place - under the black plastic cover behind the battery. |
