Perhaps the more analytical minds among us can solve this puzzle:

95 S420:
-All power windows work up and down;
-One rear window's express up/down does not, but the express on the others do
-The keyless remote will close all the locks, windows and roof when depressed, except for the window that has the faulty express function (REAR right side)

Is it a fuse? Bad connection? Got me stumped!

eh...What is the difference between power and express Up/Down?

Whatever the difference is; the malfunction cannot be caused by a fuse, since the fuses do power more as one window.
The system is controlled by a comfort relay and a relay that combines the power roof and power windows (that is if the 95 S-class electrics are the same as the 95 C-class electrics...mercedes changed the C-class (and other models) electrical systems in 1997).

I think that the problem can be found in the motor or wires of the rear window/door or in the relay that controls the windows and roof..

If the S-class was way ahead of the C-class and has the same electrical system as is used in the late "97 and later C-class, I think the relay in the mentioned door will be the one causing the problem (the later C and E classes have a relay in every single door for the powered parts; maybe the 95 S-class had that as well).

just a thought, greetingz,

....just a comment, but my 300CE has the "power up/down" function working on the left hand driver's window only. The other three only work in the normal mode, button pressed all the time for the window to motor. I thought this was by design and never gave it another thought . . . .

Try hold down the button for couple seconds when the window is fully closed. By doing this, it should reset the computer and express up/down should work again.

Give it a shot, and let us know...

You might want to re-sync the auto up/down function. Hold the up position for 3 or more sec. in the closed position.

Akry & MarkL,

I tried holding down the button as suggested but it didn't work. Although I can certainly live without the "one-touch/express" function on this one window, my engineering instincts remain bothered by not knowing what is causing it.

Thanks anyhow, guys. I had an inkling that the symptoms were too odd for anyone to have seen before.- I'll call the dealer to see if they've seen this before.

The correct procedure to re-synchronize the windows is as follows. With the key on, raise the window up using only the "first" position of the switch..DO NOT press the switch past the resistance point, into the detent position. When the window is up, hold the switch in that position for 5 sec. Repeat the procedure, putting the window down , again using only the "first" position of the switch, do not press past the resistance point, and then hold it down for 5 sec. This should re-synchronize the window.
