Ignition switch
The car is a 2000 CLK430 that had been partly stripped before I got it. Some parts on it are from other cars. The plastic ignition key does nothing when inserted in the switch. The key is sending out the infrared and RF signals as I have an electronics repair shop and checked it out. I would buy a new key by vin number but I am not sure the switch in the dash is the one that came with the car and I don't want to waste $130.00 for a key that is the wrong one. I bought a key and switch from a scrap yard and it will work the door and trunk locks but not turn. Any ideas? Jerry

If a new key FOR that VIN still wont turn THEN you will new EIS!
THE EIS is the electronic gateway for the whole car & is VIN specific. That part also requires coding to the car!

Well the new key is on order so when it gets here I will know if it has the original switch in it. I think the dealer said around $340.00 for the new switch. I have a code reader but I am looking at some that can write as well. More playthings. Jerry
