No start - W124
I opened a thread awhile back that I have no start in P but OK in N. Dealer called and told me it was due to a worn bushing and not the NSS. Can that be possible? They checked the NSS and it is in good condition. They also told me my front flex disc is in bad shape. What is the consequene of not having the flex disc fixed immediately?

Have your flex disc done promptly. It is much much much easier to do preventative maintenance than to fix it after it fails.
Heres the scenarios: 1. You pay to have the flex disc changed now...shouldn't be too much $100 in parts maybe $200 labor...your good to go for 100K or 150K more miles - great! 2. You don't have it fixed, you're driving along and it fails. When it fails (ie shreds to pieces) it will break the bolts holding it to the transmission, bend/break the transmission mouting plate, possibly break the transmission mounts. Now we're talking some serious money. Not only that, but you're pretty much stranded and will require a tow (more $$) AND you don't have a good indidcator of how long the flex disc is going to hold. The flex disc on our 86 190e failed while driving it and it did all the things I just listed (no internal tranny damage, just broken mounts, bent mounting plate, etc.) and it was expensive to buy the new parts, (we ended up having the mounting plate flattened by a machine shop because we couldn't find the right part) and it took quite a bit more time to replace everything. In our case, we were doing the labor so that was "free" but we had to buy a special 30mm deep well socket for the transmission/flex disc mounting plate. My advice to you is, have the flex disc done soon, especially if you're over 125 or 150k, its cheap insurance. About the NSS, I'm not sure about the bad bushing. The only thing I can think is that if the bushing was preventing the NSS from registering that you had put the car in "Park" that it would be as if you were trying to start the car in "R" (not allowed obviously) What was the quote on the bushing and/or the flex disc? Just curious? BTW: I checked the FastLane and the flex disc for the 87 300e lists at $98 or $101 (two different brands).

Mike Tangas purchased his 560 SEL from a wrecking yard. The flex disc failed on the car when the previous owner was driving on the freeway. The drive shaft came loose, and banged the **** out of the transmission tunnel. It managed to hit the airbag crash sensor and caused the air bag to explode, causing the guy to crash the car. The car was totalled by the insurance company, and was purchased by a salvage yard.

I've heard flex disc failure can activate air bag.

bushings
My 76' 300d wouldn't start in park, but it would in neutral. The problem was worn bushings, my mechanic fabricated a new set and inspected my car for $60.
