81 300CD transmission question
I have an opportunity to buy a 81 300CD that the transmission went out on recently. Can someone give me an idea of the cost (or book time) to R & R the transmission? Provided that I can find one somewhere. This is near Austin, TX if that makes a difference

Cost
I've seen it as low as $1200 dollars for just a rebuilt with just soft parts. But if any hard parts, IE servo's, or forks, are bad, then it could go as high as $3000.

Transmission
If you're willing to pay a little for shipping and would like a good transmission, try and visit this link, and search for part # RT-722.118B
http://www.adsitco.com/category.asp?CID=1644 They're selling for $1,195.00 I worked with these folks when I had to re-do the tranny on my 190E - very competent, and extremely helpful. I had the dealer put it in, and I remember about $900 in labor (9-10hrs. I believe). Of course, and indy would be slightly less, dependent upon shop rates. You could get by for about $2,300 IMO.

R & R time should be around 5.5-6 hrs.
I would think you could find a used trans for around $250-400.
