Its a metalic sounding clunk!
Any ideas as to what I could check? The whole rear sub-frame was completely rebuilt about 2 years ago so that rules out a bad bushing. Any thoughts?

This is like saying "I went to the doctor two years ago and my cholesterol level was fine so I can rule that out."

You can not rule out a bad bushing, or dogbone. It is time to get the car in the air and use the 4 P's; Push, Pull, Pry and Prod on everything under there until you find the loose culprit. It very well could be a worn shock, just shake the shock and if it is loose you will be able to tell, just as with everything else under there.

You just won't know until you check everything and DON'T assume that any part is okay because it has already been replaced.

Best of luck,
