Trunk Latch and Reverse Rods W140
I have done a search on this issue and I can't quite find what I need. I recently replaced the PSE pump on my 95 S320 (w140) and now the central locks work perfectly. The door assists work perfect as well (I have learned here that is another pump).
So here is the issue - The door handle extends out when the trunk is opened, but the latch does not seem to want to catch properly. Is the extension rod supposed to be controlled by the vacuum pump? Is there a good way to test it to see if it is broken? Also, the PSE pump died about 4 months ago and I had to wait to replace it due to $$$ issues, and the revere rods worked before the replacement, now they don't. Any tricks? Maybe they are stuck? Any advice would be appreciated. I am fairly handy at this stuff. Thanks! |

Try this, rotate the lower latch, if you see the upper striker move "in" the problem is that the screws holding the lower lock have come loose, and have moved upward. Take of the panelling and adjust. The draw down is controlled by the pump over the drivers side rear wheel, the lock/unlock, rods , lumbar, and in some cars the handle are controlled by the same. In 95 or so the handle was changed to work off the close assist pump. There was a lock and wiring change under a service bulletin. I would pull the fuses( in the trunk to reset) and start fresh, these things have memory and shut down circuits. the lock unlock, lumbar , headrest and backup rods come from the pump under the rear seat, the drawin and draw down from the one over the drivers rearwheel, both are pricey. search on closing assist and of course "locking "
