Unhappy Trunk Latch and Reverse Rods W140

I have done a search on this issue and I can't quite find what I need. I recently replaced the PSE pump on my 95 S320 (w140) and now the central locks work perfectly. The door assists work perfect as well (I have learned here that is another pump).

So here is the issue - The door handle extends out when the trunk is opened, but the latch does not seem to want to catch properly. Is the extension rod supposed to be controlled by the vacuum pump? Is there a good way to test it to see if it is broken?

Also, the PSE pump died about 4 months ago and I had to wait to replace it due to $$$ issues, and the revere rods worked before the replacement, now they don't. Any tricks? Maybe they are stuck?

Any advice would be appreciated. I am fairly handy at this stuff.

Thanks!
