i got a picture of the new s class today and it sucks

i also was at the dealer a week or so when my son and his wife both leased new vws. i gotta say that the new s class is a funny looking thing in person. it looks like chris bangle got ahold of it. it does nt look bad in pictures but the side renditions are very busy and goofy looking.

my $.02

Its become the trend to add bulges to the body to express power when the only thing they are expressing is a car that looks like it was designed by the World restling federation goof balls.
I would take a W126 or W109 any day over this design.

Looks like a rice burner to me, certainly not a S-class. What is the matter with these car designers? What ever happened to some style? I don't know about the rest of you all, but If I were going to spend 50K or more on a car I want it to look unique and not similar to a toyota, chevy, nissan or whatever. I'll give Chrysler some credit though, they seem to care how their cars look. I wouldn't buy a new car today because most of them look like a POS!

I first saw the pictures of the car some months back and was disappointed.
Then I saw a SILVER S-class at the dealership, and disliked the back and wheel arches, I thought the CLS was better much better looking.
Then I saw a BLACK one the other day at a dealership, It looked unbelievable, the wheel arches looked fantastic and the rear/trunk looked very rich. I don't know if I'd rather have a CLS or a new S.
Now I want to see a black one with a beige interior. I've only seen grey or near black interiors and wasn't crazy about those interior colors.

So it's not classic and it isn't timeless; MB hasn't been that way for ten years, heck their quality has sucked for longer.

As for the look, I like it. So far, I like most of MB's lines. I spent some time at the dealer looking at an R500 and even liked that. Looks funny, but practical and elegant at the same time.

I usually bash everything new MB makes but tonight I find myself salivating. I feel sick for not being able to bash the styling of this car. The one color I dislike: black. Simply because it hides the brilliant lines of this thing.

Mercedes, like BMW, is building cars that are almost indistinguishable from other brands.

The 126 was similar in many ways to the Rolls Royce of that era. If you've ever seen a 560 SEL next to a late 80's RR, you know what I mean. But still you'd never mistake one for the other.

No other brand of car looks like a w126. And there is no question of the manufacturer.

On the other hand, I had a silver BMW 3-Series as a loaner car the other day when my Z3 was in the shop. I came out of a restaurant and nearly climbed into a Volvo that looked like the same car.

My buddy has a Z3 and a new BMW 6 series. He gets far more compliments on the 7 year-old Z3 than his $93,000 6 series. To me, this new S-Class is the same. Just like it's predecessor, you could switch the badging around and convince people it's a Lexus, Infiniti or something else.

I'm sure the ride is incredible but the styling would never make me want to buy a new S class.

My two cents...

Bill

I like it much better than the past S class... I think they were going for a ballsy look to distuinguish it from Lexus.

I love the CLS. That stands out from everything. In fifteen years, it will still be breathtaking.

I can't decide if I like the new S. Honestly, I'll have to wait fifteen years before I make a decision.

Just doesn't do it for me. Now, we can talk about the 280SEL4.5 that my local indy has for sale; there's a CAR...

Flashing on an old article from somewhere, an MB engineer, asked to identify the best sedan MB has built, said the 108 with metal suspension and the V8.
What I loved about Dad's in 1969 was that it looked, felt, smelled and drove like nothing else on the road at that time. Not sure we can say that about anything MB makes now, at least within the grasp of mere mortals.

That S Class...

looks like a cross between a Ford Taurus and a Lexus... in my humble opinion.

The new BMWs look like Pontiacs from the front (with those rediculous "turned up eyebrows". It's typical honky tonk styling you'd expect from an American manufacturer.

The new MBs look like they were disigned in Tokyo.

In terms of design... the leaders have become the followers.
