Is the issue a lot of airlfow due to the blower not functioning or air coming through but the air is cold?
If it is blowing cold air and your engine temp is normal, it could be likely be the monovalve. If the blower is not working it could be anything from the blower motor itself or the blower relay, etc.

mostly just a bump...
If the blower is cutting in and out, thats your first problem.
1)Check your blower fuse. The location of this fuse should be on top of the fuse box. 2)Make sure the fan switch (the one that slides and has 4 positions) is moving freely back and forth. 3) Do the lights on the climate control panel cut in and out with the blower? More information would help. List the type of car in your signature (you can do this automaticallly in your profile) and a picture of the climate control panel would also be useful for this thread. This car is a 'euro' then? cheers, dan r. |

checked fuses and now its getting a little worse. I have found what looks like a heater element it looks like springs but heat come from them. Anyway i think only one "spring" is working. I don't know the jargon. Can anybody tell me what this is. Is it possible this is overheatting and is cutting out the blower. Thank you for your help so far.

if you have access to a camera, a picture would help. To the best of my knowledge the 190e (which is a w201 body style) runs off a heat exchanger. The engine heats up coolant and the coolant circulates via. the water pump and a small auxilary pump to the heat exchanger. The blower then blows air over the exchanger, heating it up, and into the cabin.
Check this out: http://mb.braingears.com/201_Chassis.htm Hunt around in there for a bit and see what you find. Sounds like an electrical problem with the blower, at least. cheers, dan |

The heater element is behind the battery next to a big circuit box. Its attached behind the windscreen on the back of the dash board, on passenger side. wil try and post a photo soon.

Ah! I wondered if that was what you refered to. Thats the blower motor pre-resister, and if its glowing hot then I imagine thats a bad thing.

Note that the fuses used in this vehicle have a tendency to 'look good' even when there is a micro-break in the element due to age stress. Remove the fuse - if there is such a break, the element will fall apart at this stage. Have had several fuses fool me this way. Steve
