I had a customer of mine call me to come replace his on his 140 car because his custom made theft proof one worked, but still needed replaced.
He got so tired of punks stealing his hood emblem that he had a guy custom modify his with the inner portions of the star filed razor sharp so if someone grabbed it and pulled it would darn near cut their finger off.
Well, sure enough, he was staying in a hotel in Florida and came out the next morning to find his hood emblem broken ,but still partially intact with blood all over the front of his car.
He was so happy that it worked, but he still had to replace it, and yes, I wore rubber gloves.
They did find out who did it.
It was a hotel employee who had called off the next day because he had to get stitches in his pointer finger due to a deep "carpentry injury."
The hotel refunded his money, and informed him that the employee had been terminated.

I had a friend that was sued for installing razor blades behind his stereo. He made it such that they would very seriously injure the hands of anyone trying to remove the stereo who didn't know they were there. About 8 months later someone smashed out his back window, got in the car and proceded to attempt to remove the stereo. The guy got 12 stitches in his fingers and my friend got royally screwed in the court case.

When my merc belonged to my gradfather, the emblem had been stolen probably once a year if not more. The car has seen more than 20 new emblems, surprisingly without much damage to anything else on the front of the car. I have one of them that the would be thief/vandal only got half way off before giving up.

Can't find 380SL Model/Series Emblem

First post for me...
My emblem wasn't stolen, but I wouldn't mind as my trunk emblem is pretty oxidized. I currently have a 500SL stuck on the trunk and was looking to replace it.

I have been searching for a 380SL trunk model/series emblem and cannot find it. Does anyone know where I can pick up a new/used model emblem or what to search for?

Also, looking for a simple "how to apply" step by step. Any help from the experts??? I'm a mechanical doofus.

Hood Emblem Security, Level Orange

recently some prison inmates were found to be hiding cellphones up their butts. if that hood emblem is that critical to the quality of your life you might consider following suit.

Why steel a new Mercedes Hood star

I cannot understand the mantality of these stupid theafs. If they want one they can buy it on the internet for next to nothing. why damage another persons property.

I certainly hope II never catch anyone doing this to my car. Their head will be the first to hit a brick wall or rebadge their forhead with the three pointed star.
I grew up to respect others property to look and not touch unless given permission. What happened in this country that changed all that?

This passed week the end of route 66 happened at Santa Monica Peer. some were after leaving two owners one a 300SL had there car damaged by someone. the police found the culprit.
You think that 300SL owners do not have connections well that jackass is lucky the police got him and not the owners.

Star emblem replacement

My star emblem was stolen at football game (Cretons). I ordered another one and was told "most anyone can do it" refers to "anyone" other than me.
My auto is 1999 320 Wagon. I need technical help replacing this thing. My emblem ring is still attached and only star itself is gone. I looked under the hood but for the life of me cannot figure out how to replace.
Anyone out there with any experience?
Ciao

1. Open hood.
2. From under hood, grasp outside of locking mechanism with hand or adjustable pliers.
3. Turn 90 degrees clockwise.
4. Remove emblem from topside of hood.
5. Install new emblem from topside of hood.
6. Align emblem.
7. Turn locking mechanism 90 degrees counter-clockwise.
8. Close hood and admire your handiwork.

Edited to correct the clocking!

interesting, I changed my grill a couple months ago (found one in a junk yard for $27) and then took the star off the old rusted one. No problem.
Then I got stupid and started trying to figure out how the star assembly worked and it came apart on me! I have messed around trying to reassemble the thing since and absolutely cannot see how to do without vices and clamps and so forth, I have all of the parts. That is an unbelievable contraption. I called Mercedes and the part is $35 so I intend to get a new one but the design and assembly is both intriguing and frustrating...awesome part...damndest thing I have ever messed around with....springs within springs within brackets within brackets....unbelievable.... it pretty cool actually....

We've never had any issues with them being taken.....and I even park my car on the street. If someone ever takes mine though, I will be sharpening a few edges on the replacement......

The real jackasses are the judges that seem to believe and think that anyone's property belongs to everyone...even if it's nailed down...

Someone needs to go to the judges' homes and nail their wives or daughters a few times...maybe they won't be so "forgiving" when some cretin low-life comes before them next time...then again, some folks never learn...

What's that phrase?

"A conservative is actually a past-liberal that's been mugged."

Maybe a few judges need a good mugging or five...

I've seen the aftermath of sharpening a hood star on the inside. It's awesome but obviously be prepared for a possible lawsuit.
