I'm driving a 1983 W126 (280SEL), and I'm trying to determine if the above part is simply a socket/plug, or a idle control relay, or otherwise.

This small, square plastic unit is located in the middle of the firewall, about one and a half feet to the left of the battery. It measures approximately an inch square, and has this part number inscribed on the black-colored cap: 011 545 5028.

Does anyone have any idea what part is this?

Thanks!

Mervyn

Is it really a 1983 280SEL? I could only find a listing for a 380SEL from 1983

011 545 came up on PartsShop as a used control unit(011 545 27 32U) for $451.00. I guess the first 6 numbers of a part specify a particular category, so maybe that will help.

Here is what I got as a result when I entered idle control unit for a 1983 380 SEL:

002-545-40-32 Idle Speed Control Relay European from 021545 New 249.90

002-545-40-32+A Idle Speed Control Relay European from 021545 Rebuilt 192.04 Each 93.75(core)

002-545-33-32 Idle Speed Control Unit from '83 New 246.37

002-545-33-32+A Idle Speed Control Unit from '83 Rebuilt 195.89 Each 62.50(core)

002-545-01-32 Idle Speed Control Unit thru '82 New 261.42

002-545-01-32+A Idle Speed Control Unit thru '82 Rebuilt 192.04

If you go to PartsShop fastlane, enter the online catalog, enter your year, model, fuel injection you will see what they list for idle control unit. They do not list Mercedes Parts numbers though. The above information is from another website. I believe the number has probably been updated from 011 to 002.

Hi Super Turtle, thanks for your valuable input.

Yes, mine is a 280SEL, and the reason why it was not listed on Parts Shop was probably this lower capacity model is not popular or unavailable in US. However, 280s' and 300s' are the norm here in Singapore.

Back to the part number. Yes, I did suspect that the original part number might have been updated from 011 to 002. And I am quite certain that it is part of the idle control system of my car.

I have tried using Parts Shop, but it wasnt an accurate guide because it does not list parts for my 280SEL. But I'll work further on your inputs, thanks!

Hey, Mervyn,

just bring your part to Premier spare parts along Sin Ming road, they'll probably have what you need. They have quite a good stock of '80's merc parts.

Hope this helps.

Hi Jimmy, do you get most of your parts from Premier? I have never come across this shop, so this is a piece of good news.

I used to drive a W123 too! Liked the car pretty much, still had sentimental feelings for it now. My present 280SEL, although in a better physical condition, could not afford me the kind of cosiness that my 123 gave. I'd put in a lot for my 123, that's probably why......

its the idle control relay..the 1982 380 sec has the same thing..there is also an idle control valve under the air cleaner a two prong plug thing. both of those parts control the idle..trust me I changed the plug and the idle control valve went crazy high idle..I changed the relay and it has run perfect ever since.

Just a $.75 plastic electrical connector!
The headlamp has similar plugs.
