Sun Roof and Starmark Warranty
My wagon has the Starmark warranty.
The sun roof would not slide aft but would tilt open. Thinking that this was surely a warranty item, I took it to the dealer for repairs. Guess what isn't covered under the Starmark warranty? I even called MBUSA to verify this and they did. I'm just posting this to advise those of you with sun roof problems and the Starmark warranty that your sun roof repair may not be covered. I learned a $1000.00 lesson on this one. I would rather have paid my independent mechanic the $1000. On the other hand, sometimes it is hard to tell what the warranty will cover until the problem has been identified. Having owned Toyotas in the past, I bet Toyota would have covered this without argument. Consumers beware.... Bill

Sludge...
Did you yourself physically review the starmark warranty coverage info? I would, if you have not yet... though you did call MBNA. I'd still look, makes me curious too, I'll read up on it. Our CLK came with 17 miles and it was Starmarked! Pretty good deal if you ask me.

I have bought two vehicles under the Starmark 'umbrella' package and I think it is a good package. Maybe you inadvertently bought the 'powertrain' Starmark package and not the 'bumper to bumper' package. The 'powertrain' version is very limited in what it covers if my memory is right (I'm getting old).

Good point! I must also have the powertrain warranty, since it did not cover the cracked rear window on our used SL...that was a hard lesson to learn!

I've purchased the comprehensive & extended Starmark warranties for both E500 and E320 Coupe.
A couple of years ago, the E320 Coupe had sunroof problems and apparently needed what amounted to very expensive & time consuming r/r. According to MB Factory Authorized Service here in SF, this sunroof repair was not covered under Starmark (sunroof motor was not the culprit). After this experience, I reviewed Starmark under close scrutiny, and did not find the failure specifically covered. I did surmise though that Starmark offered a great value in covering the "major" mechanicals. Also, I find value -on most jobs- having factory techs diagnose & address repairs together with a warranty on the parts, labor, & repair going forward. If one can forge a good solid relationship with the advisors and techs and have your machine well cared for, it makes the pricing and busy scheduling more palatable. -fad |

First let me say that I’m sorry to hear about the failure of the warranty to cover the sun roof. This is the first time I’ve read of something not covered, by the Starmark program other than light bulbs and radios. On my former Starmark 300TE 4-matic they were generous on the repairs. I found the Starmark program extraordinary.
Second I agree with –fad, to quote: If one can forge a good solid relationship with the advisors and techs and have your machine well cared for, it makes the pricing and busy scheduling more palatable. I would even take it further and say, it makes the pricing and scheduling well worth it. BTW, on the topic of scheduling, if you bring yer car in with a problem, they will almost always deal with it immediately. If you call and schedule, they will deal with it conveniently (to them)

I pulled out the Starmark contract tonight and found that the only sun roof item covered by the warranty is (are) the sun roof cables. Nothing else is covered. Now my question is, do those cables ever break? If not, then I guess I know why they are included....
Cheers Bill
