Why is it that everytime I load the car up to 5,000 over revs I get to hear the engine sounding like a train's engine?

It is only apparent when loading at very high revs.

The workshop can't seem to figure that out and merely told me its quite common for MB engines.

Is that fact or fiction?

Probably means your engine is gonna blow. I'd run it off a cliff before you go down when the car blazes up.

If my engine's gonna blow, I'd gladly be with it.

I'm reminded that "the hottest places in hell are reserved for those who, in time of great moral crisis, maintain their neutrality".

Poetic justice.

Makes me say "hmmmm..."

Never heard of that!? Not sure what that sounds like... Perhaps something is vibrating, exhaust hardware?, an exhaust leak? loose motor mount?, hmmm....

Scratching my head right now...

YMSin,
I was just playing around and was waiting for you to reply last night to tell you I was joking, but you didn't come back. Good answer though. LOL

Hmm, perhaps train engines run at around 5,000 rpm?

One of my friends has a 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee, and his engine whines like that when it goes above 4,000 RPM (his redline is less than 5,000). I think there was a recall for a whining drivetrain on this car. I don't know the fix though?

ymsin,

Exchange the front door Blaupunkt speakers for something that really kicks, turn up the volume, REV up to 5000rpm...and listen whether the train-engine-like-noise is still there to be noticed...

greetingz,
