I have an '87 300E, 113,000 miles. After driving it for a couple of miles or so and stopping at a signal the engine goes into a rough idle mode and then doesn't want to accelerate, but sooner or later it seems to kick in so to speak. The rough idle doesn't seem to stop regardless of the position of accelerator or if I put it in neutral, etc. The temp gauge reads fine, oil pressure is fine too. This is getting pretty aggravating and a nuisance to drivers behind me as I crawl away from the signal going 5 mph. Had a tune-up several weeks ago, vacuum hoses appear okay too. Thanks in advance for any input.

You mentioned it had a tune up recently. Did it do this before or after the tune up? If it started after make sure the plug wires are connected properly to the plugs.

The car was doing this at times prior to the tune-up, usually after I had driven it for 15 minutes or so on a warm start too. Wouldn't spark plug wire problems cause it to idle rough at all times and not just intermittently? Car has no problems on cold start, this problem starts happening after its warmed up it seems. I did take it to a MB/Jag/BMW mechanic for the tune-up who comes highly recommended and has worked on it before, but would like to get a little educated before I take it back due to my concern he'll take me on a never-ending repair journey. Tune-up was a 120,000 that included replacing the distributor cap IOW- he's the king of $600 repair bills. :-) Thanks,
