Whats Missing? I need some help!

Hey all, I need some help.

I just purchased a 89 300e that needs some fixin. I've been a Saab guy in the past so Mercedes are a different flavor for me.
Here's the deal. I have two large cables with nothing to plug into directly behind the battery on the left as I stand in front of the car. There are two empty brackets that obviously hold some electronic componets that the cables plug into. Problem is those componets are gone. Does anybody have an idea what those componets are? The car does not run due to a dead battery and a head gasket issue and maybe these missing dodads. The cables are grey and resemble old time printer cables Anything that anyone can offer is much appreciated.

stranhe cables

consider the following,
1 they may have been hooked up to a GPS / Laptop or simmilar device, reqireing direct power from the battery (not fused). try & get hold of previos owner, this would help. Some times starter motor/s/relays are added for a winch, to winch your boat up onto a trailer etc. usually they are your regular type of heavy duty cables though. have u got a tow bar @ the back, this may give you another clue. if it's nor interfering with the way the car runs, tape them up & time will probily tell.

Good luck
Graham

I'm thinking it could be the computer that runs the car . Does anyone have an 89 300E where the could look between the battery and the windshield base an tell me if they have the cables and what they connect to. The bracket thats empty looks like it would hold something square about 8inches by 8 inches.

Still looking for any ideas. Looked closer at the cables with nothing to plug into and they are original to the car.

On mine & all others behind the battery there should be 1 X CPU and another behind it with long square terminal ends on them which are about battery cable thickness. Also there are TWO relays 2' X 1 1/2' (about) which control:
1- the ECU
2 - the fuel pump relay

what I am not clear on is your car running , because without any of the above I think you need to perhaps contact me back

let us know how u go

regards Graham

I hope you got a good deal on the car, because a valve job with possible head straightening and the modules will set you back a few dubloons. You are missing the ABS computer and the CIS computer for sure. The car will run without these components after you get the head squared away. The one component you need is the OVP relay. It is a little silver box with a red fuse on top.
