W123 280
My 1983 280 W123 Has No Tach, I Have An Tach From A Similar Model (280e) I Now Want To Remove The Large Watch From My Cluster And Install The Tach. The Tach Has A Plug At The Back For Two Wires, Where Does This Wires Connect.
I Suppose One Is A Ground And The Other Connects To The (-) Side Of The Coil. If I Connect Like This Would It Work? I Also Have The Solex Carb On My W123, And Cold Starts Is Terrible, But Once Warmed Up It Is Perfect, And The C.o. Is 2.0% When Warm, Ti Just Fitted A Repair Kit To The Carb, And Cleaned It Good. The Choke Flap On The Primary Side Is Closed When Cold, But Can Be Pressed Open With Minimal Force, I Think Something Is Not Connected Correctly On The Choke Assembly On The Side Of The Carb. I Have 12v On The Choke Element. What Can Cause This Hard Syarting When Cold |

Tachometer and Carburetor
Tach: Yes, you just connect 2 wires but but make sure the ground wire is right by using multi tester.
Carburetor: It seems the choke flap is works well (close when cold and will open when the engine is warm). Have you replace the spark plugs ?. Also cek your battery and the starter motor since when cold the engine need instant torque. Good luck. |

so on the choke, i suggest you start up the car from cold and observe the operation of the choke flap. it should open very slowly. and only open completely when the car is warm. if it is opening immediately, then something is amiss.
you could perhaps fit a manual choke kit and operate it the old fashoned way if it is not operating correctly, though such a device may now be difficult to find. 30 years ago you could buy such a kit in jc whitney catalogue or at the local auto parts store. i suspect they may not be commonly available now since fuel injection has been common for what, 25 years or more? tom w
