M103 breather hose

I can't seem to get my new breather hose installed. It's the one from the idle control valve to the intake manifold. The cold start valve installs into it. I've searched this site and the best thread I could find is:

Hose from idle valve to engine.

However, I don't seem to be able to guide the new hose on. Do I try to install it from the top or bottom side? I've loosened the harness tray and even started to loosen the fuel distributor, but that didn't seem to help. Any ideas?
