I have a 1988 190E 2.3 that is leaking oil out of any place
the oil can come out. I had a compression test done and it appears the car is running on 3 cylinders. Has anyone ever seen this problem before? As you can tell I am just a driver and know nothing about cars. |

You probably have neglected your car to this point. It is now time to fish or cut bait. IF you fix, it could cost 2-3k dollars. If you trade?>??????

That sounds bad
perhaps the oil leaks arent that serious and that the 4th cylinder is just something simple like no spark, bad wire, or rotor or something. Dont give up on it yet, its a Benz!

I have only owned this car for a year. (I bought it from my father) The car was stored for 12-18 months w/o being driven. The odomoeter stopped working around 40K but I know the car doesn't have more than 75K miles total on it. I really don't want to trade. Is it worth the 2-3K investment to fix it? Other than the motor, odometer and air conditioner the car is in great shape. Has anyone seen a car blow oil like this before????? Any ideas on the problem??? Head Gasket, Rings, ????????

Kim,
The symptom you describe leaking oil out of any place the oil can come out is far too general and highly unlikely. The solution to that problem will hence be head gastkets, rings, and everything else. Is there a way you can narrow it down? A compression test only tells you one thing... psi. How you choose to interpret the results is another. Kuan |

Your oil leakage may very well be from shrunken dry gaskets caused from the car sitting for a long time. If so the gaskets may swell again and seal or they may not. You might get someone to snug down the nuts that hold your valve cover in place and those around your oil pan.

I have someone helping me with this car. Not the Mercedes Shop, but anyway. We have taken the motor out. Could not get the head off without a special tool and that should be here today. My question is (and it may be stupid) - Is there a kit available to rebuld the engine?? I really want to keep the car and need all the help I can get to have it repaired without spending as much as I would on a new car.
We are looking at replacing all the bearings, the rings, gaskets, rear main seal, master link, transmission seals, and maybe but hopefully not the pistons. Any advice you can offer would be greatly appreciated!!!! :>> |

You can get a set of gaskets and seals. As for the rest of the stuff, you're going to have to decide what you need and purchase them separately. Check out partshop at the top of the screen.

I would replace as much as you can while you have the engine out, definately would replace the pistons/rings/valves/timing chain/cam/rockers...these are high labor items that you might as well get done while its easy to do.

Well here I am again. We are in the process of putting this
car back together again after replacing just about everything. I am in need of a vacuum chart. There is not one in the book. I also purchased an A/C evaporator and need instructions on installation. I understand this is a very labor intensive job, would I do better to take it to a professional?? |
