I have an 1998 e 430 with electronic trans (no 4 matic). I v found the converter plug and wanted to drain, remove pan and filter and refill with same amount of dextron fluid.Dealer says not to change this fluid, EVER, unless there is a problem. He also told me it was special fluid at $17 a quart. I find its only dextron II trans fluid.Something here does not sound right.Could I ruin the trans as they stated? Advise please.

DONT
MARK YOUR DEALER IM A FACTORY TECH. THERE SEALED UNITS YOU CANT SERVICE THEM MAINT FREE. THAT DRAIN PLUG ONLY IS FOR DRIANING THE SYSTEM IF THE DEALER NEEDS TO DO AND KIND OF CHANGES TO THE ELECTRONICS FOR THE VALVE BODY OR CLUTCH PAKS DONT MESS WITH IT!

AS posted!! If the car belongs to you SERVICE the trans. YES use only the factory fluid & IT will cost you $200-$250 to service. BUT a Replacement is $3000-$4500.
