722.6 tranny fluid check: with engine running or not?

sorry for a n00b question.. should the ATF be checked with the engine running or w/ engine off? it sure seems like the reading is a lot higher with the engine off. i want to make sure i'm adding the exact amount and it aint so easy!!!

Running in park, and at the right temperature.

The easiest way by far is to use the SDS (Star Diagnostic System) to read the trans fluid temp, as it should be set at 80C. Not the engine coolant temp, but the actual trans fluid temp. The 722.6 is quite sensitive to fluid level, so make sure you get it right or it will cause you headaches down the road.

To check the 722.6 transmission level:

1/- Engine running

2/- Car leveled

3/- Transmission oil at required temp

4/- Final reading should be at the "FULL" mark and NOT halfway between full and low as required by other units. M.B. found out that 722.6 operates better and gives less trouble when oil level set at the full mark.
