96 C280 Fan Clutch Replacement

Hi,

Did a search on forum and could not find good info on 96 C280 fan clutch replacement.

How involved is the job?

Are special tools required to replace the clutch?

Source for special tool?

Thanks

simular

Ive never done a fan clutch on the model you speak of. However It should be simular to the 300E I have done it on.

Remove the rad for ease of access. Two clips at the top and a couple at the bottom.

On the front of the centre of the fan you will see 3 hex bolts holding the blade in place. You can do it without removeing these but once again it makes it a bit easier. Remove these and the blade comes off.

To get the clutch off, you will see a large aprrox 10mm hex bolt in the centre of the front of the clutch. You need to undo this. I couldnt remove this because of corrosion so I drilled it out and purchased a new bolt.

Please note to stop the clutch turning -on the back of the fan pulley you will see two lugs 10 mm apart. If you sit an allen key in between these two lugs (3 mm size) and turn the pully untill the allen key pops into the hole in the pulley. This should stop it turning.

Can someone confirm if this is the same for the later model?
