W124 95 E320 Coolant Overflow hose

Hi,

This is some kind of a simple question. I need to replace the expansion tank overflow hose (see pic). The hose is the one attached below the expansion tank cap but I can't tell where it ends. I goes close to the battery and down thru the firewall but where does it end? I just can't see the other end under the car or anywhere else.

Thank you guys.

There is an overflow collection reservoir behind the fender. Remove the plastic inner fender splash shield to get to it (easy with wheel removed). It's held on with a few screws and plastic nuts.
Before you put the shield back on, put some grease around the studs that the plastic nuts attach to - bad place for rust as the spot welding destroys the galvanizing and water and dirt get sandwiched between the body and shield. Also get some spray grease and spray it up in the area where the hood spring bracket attaches to the body. This is another rust area as the seam sealer was not applied thoroughly. Water can get into the seam at this point.

Thanks Rick

I just bought the new hose and will replace it tomorrow following your suggestions. I also found a coolant leak because of a crack in the expansion tank. I ordered a new tank and will replace it too. This cooling system is driving me crazy. I had to replace almos everything: water pump, oil cooler, all hoses, thermostat and now this hose and the expansion tank.
