Hello All,

I just got my euro lights in today, but I have a few questions that I am not sure of.

1) On the eurolights, they do not say Bosch on them, instead they say TYC-20 3091. There are no MB stars on the unit as well. Did they send me an aftermarket peice or soemthing?

2) Like I noticed before, there are fog lights, but there are no yellow reflectors. Therefore, I cannot use the bulbs in my current US headlights under fog conditions? Please correct me if I am wrong. I am thinking I might have to go out and buy those PIAA ion fog bulbs? Yellow light works much better than regular under fog and heavy rain conditions (which i always face)

3) Also the circular vacumm thing a ma bob (lol), that controls the height of the headlight with the vaccumm switch, is white instead of black. So thats another reason I think its aftermarket stuff.

Any verification would be appreciated.

Where did you buy your euroheadlight? As far as i know TYC is a product of Taiwan, where are you located?,Yes i think they send you an aftermarket euro headlight which is cheaper. The Euroheadlight has a foglight w/o the yellow reflector. They used H4 bulbs.Where did you buy this stuff?

Ronald,

I ordered it from a company called Tigris or something. They have an ad in the STAR.

I already have brand new clear side markers, and I just needed the headlight unit itself. I bought them for $145.00 each side. $309.00 including shipping and handling. I am NOT upset about it. You get what you pay for. But I thought euro lights are euro lights, I didnt know they have aftermarkets for them. Oh well, live and learn.

Johnson:

The Euro lights that seem to be available are:

1) Used MB Euro lights with vacuum leveler and star stamped on them, made by Hella or Bosch for MB. Mine were $300.

2) Hella or Bosch Euro lights for that model MB, but not provided to MB or stamped with star, may or may not have vacuum actuator. $ = whatever the market will bear.

3) TYC or Italian Aftermarket Euro lights.

The Euro lights use an H3 fog lamp bulb. I don't know if the yellow reflector from your old US lights will work in the Euros, I solved the problem by ordering Hella H3 #78136Y, which to oncoming drivers makes the fog lens appear white with a slight irradesence, but from inside the car throws a traditional yellow fog pattern.

I think there is a discussion of TYC and Italian euro lights in the archives from about a year ago.

Ronald, they are for a 92 300D 2.5

Darn, well, do you guys think I should return them and get some real Bosch ones? All I need is the healight assembly, I already have the sidemarkers. But its going to be a pain in the a$$ to call the people, ship them back, credit me back, find a new supplier, order then, do some more waiting, etc.

I havnt installed them in my car yet, so they are still in the box.

I got mine from http://www.europarts-sd.com/ . He had a number of sets from gray market w124 cars that were being parted out by a local foriegn car service center. They were all Hellas, if I recall, and all had the star and the vac actuator. It has been about a year now, so I don't know if he still has them or has a new source or what. Good luck - they make a whole world of difference!

Ok guys, one last question on these aftermarkets.

The lens! When looking at the lens. The headlight has differnt lines and stuff criss cross and so forth. I think this is normal because of the special beam pattern for the euro lights.

ALso on the fog lights. It looks weird, they look like hmm. Like a blurr. when looking at them with the fog lights off, they are kind of blurry looking but only on the top and bottom of the fog part. BOTH headlight assemblys are like that with the fog part, which means I dont think I got a defective lens. It kind of looks like there is water moisture on the top and bottoms, u know? Please verify to see if the hella or bosch ones are like that too. I dont want to exchange them only to get the same exact look. Thank you everyone for your reponses.

The lines are normal. If you look at your US versions they have lines too. Directly in the middle of the euro ones you should have 4-5 straight vertical lines.

The foglights have a gray border. Unlike the headlights the borders of the foglight are very close to the glass at the top and at the bottom. I was considering chroming this part but I couldn't figure out a way to get to it. Your borders may look foggy because they probably used a whiter gray plastic which contrast very differently to the glass.

Mine are original Bosch. The gray of these lights look very slightly darker than the background of this message.

The Euro lights have a very sharp beam cutoff, hence the lens pattern. I had Euro lights in my 190e, with 80/100 watt H4 bulbs and 100watt H3 fog light bulbs. Properly adjusted (the fogs will cross each other and point low at the ditches), I never got grief about the high wattage, because of that very sharp cutoff. I had Euro clear turn signal lenses with white bulbs too, and the police here in Toronto, when asked, told me they would never bother to pull me over for not having amber on the front.
