Headlight Lens

Is the headlight lens the plastic that goes around the headlights and over the fog lights? Mine are almost white are new ones clear?
Still waiting for some advice on my power seat, nothing works on it encluding the headrest. I replaced the fuse still nothing.
I would like to order the parts all at one time.

Plastic lens meant to be clear.

The seat problem is more than likely the switch, although usually you lose one function, not the whole thing at once. Should be diagnosed, but if you want to "throw a part" at the problem, that would be the one I would suggest.

Headlight lens is glass. Headlight door is plastic surround. I would check the connector for the seat motors. If everything went at once and the fuses are OK, then you've lost a major connecton. Another possibility is door connector or wiring to switch.

I had mine changed and it sure didn't feel like glass. I could be wrong. Whatever it was, the old ones weren't so clear than the new ones.

Couldnt resist going out for a tap. It sure feels like a piece of THICK HARD glass. Then again, its easy to think its plastic. In fact, I'm not sure now but I'd take your word for it. Its not going to make much difference to me whether its glass or plastic (but maybe it ought to be glass coz through the years, plastic would get opaque?).

The glass part is literally the lens, which sits in front of the bulb. The plastic surround is a heavy lexan type material which does get cloudy with age. Also develops cracks as well. The lens is bonded to the reflector assembly in US cars. This is the part of the headlight assembly that fits in the bucket which adjusts where your headlights are aiming.

I think you misunderstand Jeff. He is saying that the word lens is not the correct term for the item under discussion. The item under discussion is called a window and it is plastic.

The lens is the part that covers the headlight only and is made of glass. The plastic window then covers the headlight, it's lens and fog light etc.

I think I am talking about the lexan part that goes around the headlight and over the fog light. In the FastLane catalog it says part Headlight Lens, brand Bosch, List $75 Price $56.24. Is this the part we are talking about? Or do I need to call them?

The lens listed is the glass and plastic reflector assembly. The frame or rim is the plastic headlight door. BTW, when I purchased one of these at the dealer a long time ago, the parts tech referred to it as the headlight door. It was plastic, fit around the headlight and covered the fog light..

You have lost all seat function, so it is probably the hot wire to the switch that has broken due to flexing from opening and closing the door over the years. remove the switch and take a voltmeter to the plug connections. This will tell you if the switch or it's power supply is the culprit. By the way, the switches can be cleaned if one function has quit. Take a section of a newspaper, fold all 4 edges up and tape them to form a tray. CAREFULLY use a very small screwdriver to separate the halves of the switch. Be gentle and pry only the clips open. Little balls and springs will fall out everywhere, hence the tray made from paper. Clean all the contacts, then put a small amout of dielectric grease on each. A little playing will tell you where everthing goes to put the switch back together. The alternative is an expensive replacement.
