I need some help in finding which pin(s) of the Diagnostic module to hookup to the generic OBDII connector.

So far I've found the following, put need help identifying which pins:

OBDII Generic Connector
1- Engine Control Module (N3/4), O2S 1 signal (which pin?)
4- Chassis Ground
5- Signal Ground
7- Diagnostic Module (which one?)
9- Engine Control Module (N3/4), O2S 2 signal (which pin?)
16- Battery Voltage, circuit 30z

Everthing else is showing not connected; is that correct?

Am I missing anything?

Thanks in advance,

:-) neil

Without a wiring diagram in hand I can't help with pin locations. But, there is only one thing you can do with a generic OBDII scanner. That being communications with the Diagnostic Module. There is only one diagnostic module and it was added for US models to provide OBDII monitoring. The Diagnostic Module is hooked to the HFM, DI, and EA/CC/ISC controllers and monitors all activities relating to the onboard tracking of emiisons related systems.

MB at first didn't incorporate these parameters into it's engine management system until the ME systems came out at which time there are no more Diagnostic Modules or EA/CC/ISC or DI modules. They are all incorporated into the ME module.

I think I can get to the Engine Control Module (N3/4) on pins #4 & #17 of the 38-pin diagnostic socket, which can than supply signal to pin #1 and #9 of the generic OBDII connector.

However, I'm confused from where ton the Diagnostic Module to feed pin #7 of the generic OBDII connector.

Per the Referee, I need this in order to work in order to pass California's SMOG inspection.

Thanks in advance,

Neil

PS: any idea how hard to upgrade to the latest ME computers?
I heard that this computer produces upto 20 more HP & Torque than the HFM. Is there really that much more to be extracted from the C36 engine?

It is my impression that all US 202 chassis cars had OBDII connectors hooked to the diagnostic module. Does your car not have an OBDII connector?

I'm not very up on CA regulations but I thought that the 202 cars would pass them as they do most OBDII requirements before the other models.

What exactly does the referee want your car to do? The requirement should just be a check engine light that works and a diagnostic module for control. All US models had diagnostic modules in 95 but not all of them were hooked to the OBDII connector.

All the scanner needs at the OBDII connector is a serial path to the diagnostic module through pin seven and ground and power through the other pins.

The referee wants me to have a working OBDII generic connector (this was a 1995 C36 engine transplant into a 1988 300TE chassis). The "Check Engine" light is working fine.

So, where do I connect pin#7 of the OBDII generic connector to on the diagnostic module OR to which pin# of the 38-pin diagnostic connector (X11/4)?

Thanks in advance,

:-) neil

Oh! I presume they want you to meet the 95 standard.

I presume you don't have a Diagnostic Module, as it is not required for the car to run properly. Do you have a Diagnostic Module?
