Hello All.. Is it safe to say it is ok to replace the 10W30 oil (Non synthetic) with 10W30 synthetic ? Or should I use a different weight

Please, please, please do a search on 'synthetic oil' on this site...and stand back. This happens to be a very, very, very loaded question...basically it depends on the age of your engine (some will argue otherwise), the condition of your engine (again some may argue otherwise), and if you believe that you will gain some benefits from the switch (once again some may argue otherwise). Finally, there is also a debate as too what weight of oil 20-50 10-40 10-30 10-50 5-30(synthetic or other) you should use. Personally I say check your owners manual and use your best judgement. Please do a search

My opinion? That switch would be just fine. You might want to go 10W-40 though, just in case.
But as Yal suggested, definitly do a search because this topic has beeen discussed up and over what it needs to be. You will be able to make your own judgment based on those threads, good luck!

I know I know,,, Please please this topic should not blow up... It was just quick question.. I may just go over to the local dealer to ask them what do they use, for the replacement, since Mercedes recommended the switch in the first place
BTW the car has 49,960 Miles

Yes, switch to synthetic. I would do it without a doubt. You'll be fine. Your car should have been using synthetic anyway! Go for it!

I guess the real question should be is it a exact switch as for the weight of the oil, in other words should I use the same 10w30 for the synthetic too....

I personally would use 10W 40 or 10w 50, but I think you will be fine if you still want to use 10w 50. I use 20w 30 dino CASTROL, but when I switch to synthetic, I will keep the higher weight because I need supreme cooling! I drive hard. Good luck with the decision!

I would use 20W-50. Unless you're living in the South Pole right now you shouldn't have any trouble. Since you have almost 50k miles and the original warranty is almost up, I would have the dealer put the oil in and check for leaks.
