1997 C280 Instrument cluster problem

I have a 1997 C280 and am having issues with the gauges.Sometimes they work and sometimes they don't The fuel level does not always read along with the speedo.Can someone give me some insight as to what might be going on?

This is a common problem with these cars and is caused by the gauge needles sticking to the stop pins , when it happens slap the top of the instrument pod and if the needles pop up that's your problem.
The solution is to remove and dismantle the instrument cluster ,then clean the needles and stop pins with spirit or slip fine tubing over the stop pins.
This link will show you how;
Make sure you disconnect your battery before starting or you will activate the SRS light ,which will have to be reset by a dealer or auto electrician.

do a search for "sticky gauge". there is a lot of info out there. otherwise follow this link I put out some time ago and you will have no problems.

make sure you clean the needles and the post well or you might have to take it out and re-clean

I checked the car out at lunchtime and none of the guages are working.The mileage does show but the tach, fuel guage, speedo,temp gauges do not work.I don't think they all could be stuck.I hit the dash and still no luck.Any suggestions?
