I am looking at a 1988 420 SEL Black/Tan with 257,000 miles on it. It is a California car and is in very good but not excellant condition. Everything works, cruise, air, etc. He wants $5,200.00 for it. A couple of questions to the group:
Is that a good price? Should I be overly concerned with the 257K miles? What should I look for in this model (faults)? Thanks for your help...... |

Mercedes automobiles are notorious for running to 300k or even 400k miles, but I personally would be weary of a gasoline engined car with 257k. Perhaps if the engine and tranny have been rebuilt or replaced I would consider the car.
$5200 sounds about right for a 420SEL with such high mileage. If it were me I would probably shop around more and try to find one with under 200k.
