Where can I run a VIN report so I can give to California's Air Resources Board (aka, CARB)?
I need to show them date of manufacture, and prove to them that this engine did not have a fully implemented OBDII system.

The vehicle in question is a 1995 C36, VIN# WDBHM36E2SF158737

Thanks in advance,

:-) neil

Wait... to my knowledge, in 1995, the c-class was fully OBDII.
I could be mistaken?

I'm getting conflicting information regarding OBDII on the C-class.

Some people say it's fully OBDII compliant, others say it is only partially compliant (fault codes only, no engine management).

If it was manufactured in late 1994, I'm betting that Mercedes just gave some basics out.

Under my hood where a bunch of engine info is given, it states:

"OBDII Compliant"

The place where I take my car didn't think it was either since it was a 1995. But I told them to hook it up to the machine, and they were able to access everything. All the info, nothing missing. I am pretty darn sure it's OBDII compliant. In fact, I know.

Oh and to answer your question:
"Where can I run a VIN report so I can give to California's Air Resources Board (aka, CARB)? "

Any Mercedes dealer can do it for you. I don't know about the engine though, I suppose you just give them the engine serial number or whatever?

Oh ok, i get it... you can just run the car that the C36 came out of!

ONLY cars made for model year 1996 & on had to be ODB2 compliant. However the 1994 & later C-class were made to comply even though the *LAW* wasn't in effect!! MANY programing problems were FIXED before the LAW went into effect. Call or write MB at their home office in NJ.

Yes, and I read on some OBDII page that the 1994 C-class were partially OBDII compliant, and that the 1995 and on C-class were OBDII compliant
