E320 07/1994 no engine light/ abs and asr lights are on at all time
I would greatly appreciate if someone can help ,e on this one.
i just purchased a 07/1994 e320 i have a abs and asr light on at all time. second i have no CHECK ENGINE light on at all. i check the bulb on it is fine. when i go to the diagnostic connector to check for code nothing is blinking or happening. one thing i do know that car has new overload voltage protection relay and previous owner had install a new battery i have driven about 200 miles since then. the guy told me that abs and asr light came on when he replaced the front pads i dont know if he replace the sensor as well. i dont know where to start i have tried find the diagnostic module but couldn't locate i don't know if i am heading the right direction. please advise me on this one if you can tell exactly where the damn diagnostic module is i will greatly appreciate and advise me where should i start first. thanks in advance. |

Do you see the diagnostic connector box in front of the battery??

Does that model use the same stop/brake light switch as the later W210 cars, or something similar? That's what fixed that light in my '98 E-class.
Cheers, John

If you replaced the stop lamp switch yourself, did you pull the stem all the way out before installing it? It is self adjusting.

At Diagnostic Box, check for 12v power at terminals #1 [neg] and # 16
[ pos] with a voltmeter or test lamp. Key ON |

hi arthur,
i have reset the code for the abs/asr and i verified it by one blink that code was cleared. but the abs/asr is still on? i havent had a chance to find the DM i will look at it soon as i get some time. you think it might because of DM being disconnected and thats y the lights for the abs and asr is still on? it was verified after starting the car and lights did not go off. |

Ok..you may want to also verify that the OVP is not the original one b/c they were famous for electical gremlins and any old one should be replaced , regardess of it's present condition... Benz finally upgraded the part. Take the old one out , look at the part# on the side..if it is 000-540-52-45, change it . The replacement is 000-540-67-45, which in all probability that is what you will find in there now.......
Before taking it out , give it a few taps and see if that ce comes on KOEO, just for kicks. Could have a bad connection at the base. I very much doubt you have the original OVP b/c none of them lasted this long, but it only takes a min to check and no matter what, you do not want the old style OVP in your car, for sure....even if it has nothing to do with your present probs |

The N59 is under the dash, to the left of the steering column..
I did a post for you about the OVP relay feeding the CE circuit and asked if you has the old part#. You may just want to check that before going into N59 schematic tracing..if the module is not unplugged or any wires pulled out to disable it, I would go look at thea ovp if I were you. It feeds the CEand thew N59 grounds the circuit...you will see that when I send the schematic.. |

hi, arthur
i checked the voltage for pin#4 i am getting 12v i checked by back probing it. i am getting no voltage KOE0 at pi#9 which is brn/wht going to the CE Lamp. would this indicate that module is bad i took it out and looked at the pins they looked rather dark or brown like burn out or something but doesnt smell like burnt. |

Ok
So, you now know you have power to the module and nobody has unplugged it to hide a CE lamp..that was my main concern You will not get voltage at #9 That is the neg side of the CE lamp..you now want to go see about that ovp, as that is feed for the lamp..the ovp pin #7 is 12v feed for both the CE lamp and the ABS control module..so , that is where to look Also , there is a CAN connector at N59 gr and wht wires [4 of them]..are they plugged in??? that is the communication cable that has shown a code. |

i am so happy arthur you dont know how happy i am. i went back and look at the ovp i guess when someone had install that ovp they didnt plug it in properly. the pin #7 is the power to the ce lamp like you said was not plug into it was laying somewhere and found the connector and plug it back in and started the car and evertyhing works good abs/asr and ce lights came on and wen off after few seconds
thanks arthur for all you help. |
